Early American history is rich with utopia communities: Oneida, Amana, the Shakers instantly spring to mind.
Largely they failed or grew distant from their founders’ intentions and goals. Though a few like the Amish have managed to create persisting separate cultures.
I’ve been meaning to address Femquility for a few weeks and a mention of it elsewhere prompted me to finally get down to it tonight.
The various URLs that lead to the Femquility website have been up for what seems like forever. If the site has changed in recent times it has been in small ways that I can’t perceive.
Femquility is meant to be an ecologically kindly female led community. A matriarchal township. Psychologically it might be imagined to offer a comfortable community to couples who have embraced loving female authority. Though I’m sure that many men who read of it have less pacific visions of a hot femdom utopia. Whatever the sweet imaginings dominant women may have of a gynarchy for most men female supremacist politics is really a fantasy of lifetime humiliation.
But that is just the way those things go.
The last flourishing of the creation of cohesive, private communities was the 1960s when hippies and yippies founded communes. Much, much smaller in scope than Femquility. And utterly evanescent.
Femaquility faces severe challenges. How many people are willing to invest considerable capital in such a speculative venture? Even gynosupremacist idealism faces a challenge when facing the bank accounts of potential contributors. And that assumes interested couples really have money to donate.
How many people would relocate? How many could afford to? To cast aside career, local friendships. And probably family who would not be sympathetic to a matriarchal community?
New communities in modern America are usually suburbs attached to an already existing town. They are financed by groups of millionaires and those they can seduce to invest in hopes of turning a profit.
And one can only imagine what hardships a governor, state legislature and attorney general might manage to impose on such a community should it somehow begin.
Chances of Femquility becoming more than a website are slender.
Matriarchal institutions will likely remain two or more people in a house.
